The Monroe Police Department has an Emergency Response Team (ERT) and two specially trained negotiators. A multi-agency agreement with the Lafayette Co. Sheriff's Department, has allowed for a substantially larger complement of members, equipment, and capabilities not normally afforded to a department of our size. Throughout the year, the team may be called out to multiple high-risk situations. These call-outs include armed barricaded subjects, high-risk warrant arrests and drug raids.

Each team member is an experienced officer, and has completed specialized courses in advanced tactical response and weaponry. The team also conducts skill building exercises in true-to-life scenarios year round.

When activated, a response may include a fully staffed mobile command post, support personnel, and two complete tactical teams.
